Facebook Cartoon Profile Pic Campaign Not A Hoax

The Facebook cartoon profile pic news has completely taken over Facebook this weekend! Facebook cartoon profile pictures are all over the news, and people everywhere are wondering why everyone’s Facebook picture is a cartoon. The original theory for the Facebook cartoon profile pic craze was that people were changing their Facebook pictures to cartoons to speak out against child abuse and violence. Facebook cartoon profile pic news now says that the campaign may actually be a hoax set up by online child predators.



Some are saying that online child predators started the Facebook cartoon craze to lure innocent children into accepting Facebook friend requests from people who appear to be friendly cartoon characters.

There is always the possibility that the Facebook cartoon campaign is a hoax, but there are a few good reasons why it is NOT a hoax as well.

1. Not many children use Facebook. Facebook is primarily for teens and adults, so Facebook may be an unlikely place for online predators to lurk.

2. Parents are much more aware of what their kids do online. If there are younger kids with Facebook accounts, their parents will likely monitor who they accept friend requests from.

3. Online predators tend to be much more discreet. Would they really start a Facebook craze to lure kids in when they know they will likely be caught?

4. The Facebook cartoon campaign has an expiration date of December 6th. If this were really an act of online predators, why would they put a time stamp on it?

Facebook cartoon profile pic news: The truth behind the rumors!

So what’s the Facebook cartoon profile pic news: Is this really to prevent child abuse? Is it a scheme by child predators trying to friend kids? Are the cartoon profile pictures being seen by inappropriate people? It’s time to set the record straight people, and the first thing you need to know is that it does NOT have to do with pedophilia.

Not sure how the rumor got started that it would be easier for child predators to friend people if they had cartoon characters as their Facebook profile pictures, but it’s not true. As one site pointed out, pedophiles don’t generally meet together to cook up some worldwide scheme.

And this campaign, which started in Greece and Cyprus, does not seem to really be connected to any “stop child abuse” campaign, either. That was just added later, so that people would be convinced to change their profile pic; they felt they were supporting a worthy cause.

In the end, they were – the whole thing took off quickly and became one of the biggest memes in recent memory. So smile at your profile pic and end your worries – you’re not supporting something seedy.

Who Started the Whole Facebook Cartoon Profile Picture Thing?

Millions of people have changed their Facebook profile pictures from their everyday face to that of a Smurfette, Underdog of Scooby Doo. It was a case of both a mix of nostalgia for the cartoons of yore and as a stand against child abuse.  But who started the whole viral movement who was the one who made countless people change their on line avatars? Here’s the news…The big anti-child abuse organizations aren’t taking claim for starting the movement. And no one has come out online or on the news  saying they were the brains behind the whole thing.  So who is the culprit? One site said that the whole thing actually started on on Nov. 16 when the “unofficial Facebook Cartoon Profile Picture Week” began and it may have actually been started in Cyprus and Greece.

And  then someone took on the project on Facebook starting a page that said:

“Change your profile picture to a cartoon character from your childhood andinvite your friends to do the same. Until Monday (Dec 6) there shouldbe no human faces on facebook, but an invasion of memories. This is acampaign to stop violence against children.”

And there are almost 90,000 people have liked the Facebook page.

But in both those cases there is no reference to it being started as a peadofile ploy. To most it really does seem just a way to bring attention to a cause in a fun and casual way.

Facebook Cartoon Hoax: Should You Change Your Profile Picture Back?

Parents across the country have had a fun time this weekend digging out pictures of all their favorite cartoon characters from their youth.  As the Facebook cartoon character campaign nears its end, there are some who want to bring the cartoons to an abrupt end with claims of it all being a hoax by child predators.

While it appears that both the campaign credited with creating the cartoon profile request and the response claiming that it really originated from a group of child predators are hoaxes, the entire thing really is harmless.  There’s no real need to change your profile back to a personal photo or a picture of your kids.  In fact posting a photo of your kids instead of a vintage cartoon would be more of an enticement to the predators of the world.  

Even though the news may get you upset about the Facebook cartoon hoax just remember how much fun it was to look at all those old-school cartoons this weekend and keep a close eye on your kids online activities to help keep them safe.

School Gyrls, Diddy Dirty Money, and Cartoons are hot topics on the web this weekend! A Very School Gyrls Holla-Day is a Nickelodeon holiday flick. Real-life pop divas School Gyrls — Monica Parales, Jacque Nimble and Mandy Rain–are the stars of this fun and fluffy modern holiday movie.

Diddy-Dirty Money was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live last night, while Robert DeNiro hosted the live show. The group Diddy Dirty Money is the brainchild Sean “Diddy” Combs. I thought DeNiro was brilliant on SNL but reviews were mixed for his performance, Diddy Dirty Money received rave reviews.

Cartoons were everywhere on the web this weekend!   Cartoon avatars for Facebook were all the rage this weekend.  Facebook members are replacing their profile pics with cartoon characters as a part of an initiative  to speak out against childhood violence. As you are likely now aware, people on Facebook are changing their profile pictures to shots of cartoon characters from the 80’s in an effort to speak out against childhood violence. 

Another favorite are the Warner Brothers’ cartoons.  Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Sylvester Cat, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Wile E. Coyote, Foghorn Leghorn, Porky Pig, Pepe Le Pew, Speedy Gonzales, and more, received their best network television treatment on CBS’ The Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour.

The classic Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies half-hour cartoons first aired on prime-time network television in 1960-1962.  CBS’ The Road Runner Show, premiered on September 10, 1966 and was telecast for two years until September 7, 1968. Its episodes consisted of three cartoons, one with the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote, one with Tweety and Sylvester, and one with a rather eclectic selection of Warner Brothers cartoon characters.

Cartoon Characters from 80s, 90s: Ren and Stimpy

Ren and Stimpy are the best cartoon characters from 80s or 90s!  How can you not love Ren the psychotic chihuahua? Stimpy the cat is equally as awesome, even if he’s not the sharpest tool in the toolbox.

The Ren & Stimpy Show is a classic (but twisted) cartoon.  The series was first introduced to the world in 1991 on Nickelodeon.  In case you missed out on this cartoon, it’s the story of Ren Höek, an insane chihuahua, and  his roomie, Stimpson J. Cat. Stimpy is a cat who is a good-natured, but low on brains.

Before you run out and get this cartoon for your kiddos, be warned: Ren & Stimpy is a cartoon better suited to older viewers!  The humor of Ren & Stimpy is bizarre and quite repulsive at times.  Common topics in this series involve litterboxes, hairballs, farts, and of course “magic nose goblins”.  This cartoon is way out there but that’s why I loved  it!  That is also why, when the kids aren’t looking, I still watch Ren & Stimpy—and laugh until my stomach hurts.
