Ina Garten: From Home Cook to Google Doodle – Who Is the Barefoot Contessa?

ina gartenIna Garten is living the dream!  The Barefoot Contessa has gone from home cook to Google Doodle.

Many home cooks have the dream of taking their skills and putting them to work on television.  Ina Garten has made that dream a reality with her highly popular take on modern cooking, Barefoot Contessa.    Not only has she become one of the biggest stars on the Food Network with multiple shows and cookbooks on the market, she’s the first Food Network star to be featured with her very own Google Doodle!  Not bad for a gal who learned how to cook in her home kitchen.

Who is Barefoot Contessa Ina Garten?

Ina Garten is better known as the Barefoot Contessa with her own series on the Food Network, best-selling cookbooks, and gourmet food store.  Not a trained chef, Ina taught herself how to cook while her husband was serving a tour of duty in Vietnam.  She went on to earn her MBA and ultimately worked as a nuclear policy analst in the White House during the Ford and Carter administrations.

Ina ultimately left her government job in 1978 to found her Barefoot Contessa Gourmet Foods Store in Westhampton Beach, New York.  She entered the national food stage in 1999 with the release of her first cookbook, The Barefoot Contessa Cookbook.  Ina mader her television debut on the Food Network in 2002 and a star was born.  Today she has her own line of self-branded food products, cookbooks, and television programs.  Quite a rise for a self taught home cook!

What do you think of Ina Garten’s journey from home cook to Google Doodle?
