John Lennon quotes from his final interview in Rolling Stone have landed online. John Lennon graces the cover of Rolling Stone – inside, Lennon’s last interview conducted just three days before he was murdered by Mark David Chapman.

Today, on the 30th anniversary of the death of John Lennon, Rolling Stone reveals Lennon’s nine hour interview, in which John complains about critics, talks about his family and future and discusses the break he took from the music industry.

This is the first time the Rolling Stone interview has been published in its entirety – some excerpts were released in a 1980 issue of Rolling Stone.

On critics and fans who were unhappy with his five year break from music: “What they want is dead heroes, like Sid Vicious and James Dean. I’m not interested in being a dead [expletive] hero…so forget ‘em, forget ‘em.”

On hitting the road again: “We just might do it. But there will be no smoke bombs, no lipstick, no flashing lights. It just has to be comfy. But we could have a laugh. We’re born-again rockers, and we’re starting over…There’s plenty of time, right? Plenty of time.”

Hear clips from John Lennon’s final interview, plus videos, photos, playlists and Yoko Ono’s personal essay on John’s final days at Rolling Stone’s website.

The Rolling Stone John Lennon interview issue hits newsstands on Friday.
